In world of warcraft (wow), if you're a hunter, can you keep more than one pet?

I'm a hunter in WoW and I currently have a pet and I want to try catching another pet. If I do catch another pet, will my current one be gone forever? Or is it kept somewhere in my inventory or something?

you can have up to 5 total but only one active at a time, the other ones you can store in a stable, just find a stable master, they're in most areas (you can track them on your mini map); if you want to get a new pet you have to either have none active or abandon your current one, them tame the one you want
