Dual monitor video problems?

Since December I have been using two displays - one CRT monitor and one TV hooked up via S-video.

I would normally play video games on my CRT with movies playing on the other, but now, whenever I load up a graphically intense video game (in this case, World of Warcraft), the movie's graphics disappear, I can see half of the Winamp window and half of the desktop, but I can still hear the movie. If I exit the game, the movie resumes as normal. I have tried Media Player Classic, but with no success. I also have re-downloaded my video drivers as well as my motherboard drivers.

Any ideas?

(Note: World of Warcraft has always been the game I've played while watching movies, but the problem also happens with other games as well)

That is a tough turn of events and I am sure the cause will be in Windows. There are many things that can happen within Windows in order for the playback configuration to change. Some of these are missing or corrupted video codec files, registry error, driver file not completely loading as well as a whole world or hardware causes.

Assuming that the hardware is good the first attempt would be to uninstall and reinstall the drivers, which you did. Remember that a driver is not fully unistalled unless you do it from safe mode and use the "driver" tab for the adapter in the device manager.

Device Manager / Display Adapters / AdapterName / Properties / Diver Tab / Uninstall button .

Once that is done, reinstall the drivers and if you receive no error messages, try again. If this does not work, do a system restore to a point when the playback was working the way you want it to.

Further troubleshooting would be extensive.
